5+ School Readiness
Children are not required to start primary school until they are 6 years old. Some children may benefit from the less formal structure of ECE for longer. Some parents appreciate a smaller teacher:children ratio, the longer hours of care ECE gives them, and the 20 and +10 ECE hours funding.
At the Preschool we provide a 5+ programme for children who stay with us beyond the age of 5.
It aims to give children opportunities to:
-
explore more challenging activities (such as IT or art projects) in a smaller teacher:children ratio.
-
work on certain milestones or learning outcomes to better prepare them for school.
It is also a programme which gives parents more opportunities to:
-
get formal information on their child's learning and transition needs.
-
be more involved in the ECE to primary school transition.
