School Start
To help bridge the gap between ECE and Primary School, our Preschool runs a School Start programme for an hour and a half every day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This programme involves more formal, structured learning that is similar to what the children would experience in a new-entrants class.
It aims to give children who are approaching school age opportunities to:
-
experience a more structured teacher-led session.
-
develop the capacity to pay attention and follow instructions.
-
learn to recognise letters and the sounds they make.
-
learn to form letters the correct way and write their own names.
-
recognise basic numerals and understand the number value they represent.
-
complete structured learning activities within specific timeframes.
-
practice communicating and listening in a group setting.
-
see themselves as competent and capable learners.
